Track covered in snow

The snowfall that fell the night of Monday 13 to Tuesday 14 has been the main protagonist in the day in which snowboard-cross trainings were to begin in Alabaus area. At 9:00 am the teams gathered in the vicinity of the Alabaus chairlift, and, after a first inspection, the race jury, together with the coaches of the different countries, decided that the test had to be postponed for security reasons. The 50 cm of snow that fell in the high area of La Molina ski resort covered the snowboard-cross circuit and the conditions were not the most suitable.

Snowboard-Cross and Banked Slalom

At the 2017 IPC Para-Snowboard World Cup in La Molina, riders will participate in two types of para-snowboard disciplines: snowboard-cross and banked slalom.

Snowboard-cross: This discipline is performed in a circuit with man-made jumps as well as modules with narrow and windy curves that challenge the racer in various areas during the run. There is an initial qualification round with the fastest riders progressing to race head-to-head for medals. Snowboarders have to be good technically in order to overcome the difficulties in the course. They have to know how to jump and they also have to work tactically.

At La Molina 2015, the new discipline of banked slalom was included in a World Championships programme for the first time. It has its origin in the USA. Riders perform three individual runs, with the best two being put towards the final standings.
