La Molina hosts the Parasnowboard IPC World Cup with facilities fully adapted and accessible
La Molina is a Catalan ski resort station is situated between the Cerdanya, Ripollès and Berguedà regions, is hosting, once again,the IPC Snowboard World Cup for disabled people. This would not have been possible if the ski instalations were not fully adapted for disabled people. It is for this reason that La Molina is commited to inclusion by offering several services for people with disabilities, and hosting a world competition at a high level.
The international atheletes will compete on the 2nd and 3rd of March 2020 in the Snowboard Dual Banked Slalom (DBSL) in Torrent Negre, La Molina. This is the first time that this modality has been perfomed around the world. This is the second season in a row that the Pyrinees will host the World Cup IPC in Banked Slalom modality and this year the novelty will be the Dual event (two atheletes are going down at the same time in parallel)
La Molina has a long tradition in IPC Racing, it was the host of IPC for Snowboard World Cups in 2015 and the IPC Alpine Ski World Championships in 2013. It has also organized World Cup IPC, almost every season, mainly in snowboarding. This interest in sports events for people with reduced mobility have allowed the station make the necessary investments to convert their facilities to be fully accessible and adaptable for the tourists with disabilities.
We are Looking forward to the confirmation of the international atheletes for this years Parasnow IPC World Cup, 13 diferents countries were participated last season and this year we expect even more.
A pioneer station in adapting facilities
La Molina has very advanced facilities and resources accessible for athletes with reduced mobility, which means it is one of the three ski resorts in Catalonia recognized by the Catalan Tourism Agency (ACT) as its initiator of sport and adapted tourism. Moreover, it also won an IAKS award, the architecture prize for advanced sports facilities of the International Association of Sports and Recreational Facilities, for the design and functionality of adapted sports facilities.
It offers some infrastructures that are essential for those users with reduced mobility: adapted parking spaces, rental of specific equipment for different types of disability, easy access to the different restaurants, as well a toilets adapted for wheelchair use.
On the other hand, there are also adaptable exit, such as the Bosquet area, which has an adapted ski lift with a wide extension of the tape which gives athletes more security and balance.
The facilities also include a paramount service, the Adapted Sports Center. This area allows people with a disability to enjoy the snow for winter sports or for adapted tourism.
Some of the notable adaptable tourist activities are the adapted mountain bike (MTB), the skikart, the tandem ski, the visually impaired ski or the 4 fingerprint mode, where two skis and two stables are used. Or tourist activities such as the adventure park or cable car trips that make La Molina a reference station in inclusive facilities and services.
